The Tornado of Life

Author’s Note: I wrote this essay about the book I read, I,Q. by Roland Smith because I wanted to portray it’s a book that connects to me, other books, and the world. In this essay, I worked on word choice, idea development, and conclusion. Please give me feedback on how I can improve in these areas.

Life is like a tornado; you never know what is going to happen. Q (Quest) and Angela, characters in the book I,Q. both face unknown dangers. Their whole life suddenly is all discombobulated! Everyone faces different kinds of danger in everyday life, though. The book I, Q. by Roland Smith connects to my life, other books, and the world in many different ways.

Q is like me because whenever he is nervous he does things with his hands. His hands always seem to be doing something whether it's shuffling cards or typing on the computer. I have nervous hands sometimes, too such as when I am just sitting there I tend to need to do something with my fingers. Also, in my life I have to live with my brother. He is a lot like the character X-Ray. X-Ray is the kind of person who loves to invent things that enhance the meaning of everyday life. My little brother, Connor, loves to invent things. Connor would make a great inventor some day if there was a way to make a living nowadays while inventing things. X (X-Ray) also seems to like science. That's where he gets his ability to invent from. Connor's favorite subject is science; he loves experimenting things.

The book I,Q. does not only connect to my life, but also connects to other books. Many other books have something to do with spies. These books seem to draw the readers' attention by carefully adding clues and/or information. This makes the reader think more about what they are reading. In particular, the book Into the Gauntlet by Margaret Peterson Haddix is all about finding clues to lead two kids to the final treasure.

Even though I,Q. connects to other books, it also connects to the world. Sadly, there is still terrorism happening all over the world. I wish that somehow people would realize what they are doing is wrong; most terrorists don’t believe they are doing anything wrong. But, that isn’t true. It hurts people physically, mentally, and emotionally. I,Q. is also partly has to do with Q and Angela’s parents being famous. They tour the world. All sorts of people who are singers and/or performers travel the world to share their talents. Sometimes, those kinds of people can get a little carried away. Luckily in this book, those people don’t get carried away by the thought of thousands of fans calling their name.

My life, other books, and the world connect to the book I,Q. in many different ways. You should read a book. If you can connect to the book, it helps you understand it more. Reading can help you write and vice-versa. The author will show many ways how the book connects to real life, so hopefully readers can connect to themselves. If you can connect to any book, it helps you understand it significantly more.

Butterfly Love

Author's Note: I wrote this piece because as I was looking through my list of things I could write about, I chose butterflies. But, I wanted it to be an informational piece while still being elegant. I combined those two factor to get a one-of-a-kind poem.

Their lovely wings
Beat so lightly
Yet just enough
To get up off the ground

Their pretty colors
On their wings
Can tell you
Who they are

Their predators move away
Whenever
Their pretty colors show

Their long tongues
Help them eat the food
And sniff out milkweed
To lay their eggs on

Their eggs hatch
Into caterpillars
And the caterpillars grow
Into another butterfly

The Bunny

Author's Note: Since I have a great love for bunnies, I decided to write a cinquain poem about them. Think of how a bunny acts while you are reading this and see how what I wrote connects to what bunnies really are like.

Fluffy
Soft, brown
Hiding, nibbling, sniffing
Loves to munch and crunch
Adorable

The Flowing Movement

Author's Note: I was bored, so I thought of what I could possibly write about. I was inspired to write about dancing because it can be so flowy and beautiful. The words that were in my head practically floated right on to the page.

The flowing movement
Many call dancing
Can come in many
Different ways
From big flowing dresses
To pop concerts
And Church performances
You can use
The flowing movement
Whenever you hear
The song that you
Feel inspired
To use the flowing movement
