Fluffle

Author's Note: If I were to invent something, I would have it be able to do things that nothing else can do. But, that is very hard to do, since if it hasn't been invented, most people can't think of it.

Even though many people have invented many great things, the one thing that no one and I repeat NO ONE has invented it. It is the something that can be anything. Many people have dreamed about making it, but no one really ever tried it because the device, experts, and money would be too much to handle. That's why I would be the very first one.

The device will fit into someone's pocket, and will be practically not be noticed. But first, instead of calling it the device, I will name it the Fluffle. Now since it has a name (Fluffle), I can explain it more detailed. Fluffle is a miniature bouncy ball. One will be worth probably a billion dollars. You can even get the bouncy ball customized! (…For another 5,000 dollars.) This is because many people will want a Fluffle, but they are very expensive to make. (Of course, I will keep the original, and make it even better.) Fluffle will be able to change into anything that s NOT a weapon. (Otherwise we would be in big trouble.) I would suggest not changing it into food, because once you eat it, it is gone. If somehow the person who buys Fluffle uses it against somebody, it will immediately be taken away. There will be people who watch the people that have a Fluffle. Pretty soon, the world will realize what a great device this is, and move away from technology like computers, phones, and game systems. You can change a Fluffle into any one of those. Then, the price of the Fluffle will go down, and everyone will be pouring into the stores to hopefully get their own Fluffle. Next, everyone will forget about all other technology, and focus on doing things like spending time with family.

The True Meaning of Christmas

Author's Note: With the holidays coming up, it is a good time to think about what Christmas is really all about. My friend, Sarah influenced my to think about one thing: What is the true meaning of Christmas?

There are all of these commercials on TV about buying things for yourself. People who don't know the true meaning of Christmas, and think it's all buy, buy, buy. Stores are basically saying "Buy form our store! We have the best deals!". That has nothing to do with Christmas. (In the stores' defense, they do have to make money [and it's usually around Christmas that they have to] of they will lose their jobs.] Also, I guess that someone who does not think the true meaning of Christmas is buy, buy, buy, could think of the stores wanting them to buy to give, but still...) Christmas is also not about how many lights you can put up on your house or how big and fancy of a tree you can get, and although those things are fun, giving is still the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas IS all about giving, and it DOES feel good to give someone something around the holidays, but we should be giving all year 'round.

Random Poems

Author's Note: Sometimes I like to write weird and random poems. Here are a few of them.

POEMS
Poems are fun
In poems you can run
Just like in autumn

Poems can be about stars
Or maybe even cars
And certainly trapeze bars

Poems have to have rhythms
But if they are free-write they don't have to rhyme
And bring you back in time

The poem could be a free-write, boring yet exciting poem with no rhythm about poems

SNOW FALL
Little snowflakes fall
From the sky
And barely touch the ground
Just like sap drips
From a tree
White fluffy flakes fall
Like a blanket covering the ground
The perfect flow of snow
Sparkles on the ground

SNOWFLAKES
Flakes of snow
Fall from the sky
Each mini flake
Has the tiniest details
Sculpted in the flake
The beauty
Of watching them fall
Is spectacular

MARSHMALLOW

Pitter-patter goes the sound
Of a hamster's feet
Crunch goes the light-blue bedding
As he scurries across the cage

Sniff-sniff goes the sound
Of a hamster sniffing
As a hand reaches into the cage

The hamster is as white
As new fallen snow
With a dark gray stripe
Running down his back

He needs a name
A wonderful name
A name that no other hamster is named

I shall call him
A food name
Just like the last white hamster
What should it be?

It was going to be french-fry
Then it was going to be peanut-butter
But he's white

The only wonderful
Wonderful
Name I can think of…
MARSHMALLOW!

Memories

Author's Note: Childhood memories are important things to remember. That's why I chose to write about childhood memories.

Childhood memories are things to keep
Things to look at throughout the week
They are special things
To influence you later in life
To remember important happenings
Things you want to look for
When you are feeling sad or down
Instead of going into town
You can look back at your childhood memories
They can remind you when the day is done
Of how much fun
You had when you were a child
Being a child is something to remember
Something to always keep safe and never
Ever
Forget

Good-Bye

Author's Note: It is very thought-provoking to think about what you would do if you had one more day to live. So, I wrote a short poem about what I would do if I had one more day to live.

If I had only 1 more day
To live…

I would try to spend
It with my family

I would spend my money
Going fun places
And donating it
To help look for
A cure for cancer
And other
Not-really-curable
Diseases

I would say sorry
To anyone I was
Fighting with

I would give
Away things I own
To my family
And to kids in need

I would say goodbye
To everyone I know

And the world would say
Goodbye to me

Dream Vacation

Authors Note: 12 is a wonderful number. It is an even number, with two simple numbers in it. 12 is in between childhood and teen-hood. It also means vacation. On my 12th birthday, when I only saw a single present on the table, from my dad, I was very confused. Then, when I opened it, I knew exactly what it meant. It was a trip to Paris! With just my dad and me! I am really hoping that when my brother turns 12, my mom, dad, my brother, and me will go to Hawaii. That would be Awesome. So, I will write about what I think Hawaii is like.

The sun is shining brightly in the sky, but you barely feel the heat of it's rays, for you are sitting on the warm sand underneath a palm tree, enjoying the cool breeze. The only thing you hear is the light crashing of the waves against the rocks. Far in the distance, you see a dolphin swimming silently in the sparkling blue water. You are sensing the beauty of Hawaii.

"Let's go!" shouts your mother.

"Coming!" you yell back.

After a ride in a bus on a very bumpy road, you come to a sudden stop. Then, you see the most beautiful thing- a giant waterfall surrounded by wildlife and a luscious green forest. You stare in awe as the water falls from way up high.

After a Fun Day, Sad Things Can Happen

Author's Note: Two days after my hamster, Cupcake died, I was still a little sad. Cupcake was the only thing I could think about, so I wrote a story about the kind-of-weird day I had when she died.

On Sunday, September 4th, my dad took my little brother and I fishing. Connor claimed that fish like wax worms best. I believed him, because my grandpa took him fishing, and they caught 15 fish! Except we always put the fish back into the water because my dad says that it is too hard to cook the fish. So, my brother and I went to the bait shop to buy wax worms. We always fish on the pier on Pewaukee Lake. My brother caught 1 fish, and I didn't catch any, because the fish kept on taking our bait. I really think fishing is boring, because you have to wait forever until you get a bite, and even then, you are lucky if you catch a fish.

On the way home, my dad asked us what else we would like to do today. Connor said right away that he wanted to go to Cushing park. There was nothing else to do, so I went to the park with them. Cushing park is HUGE! All my brother wanted to do was play in the sandbox.

Afterwards, we went home. My mom then told me some very sad news. She showed me my hamster's cage, and there was Cupcake, lying like she had never lied before. She told me that she didn't think that Cupcake would make it through the day. Then, my brother started to watch a movie, but I don't know what it was called. Soon, we went to the Chocolate Factory in downtown Pewaukee, because my mom had coupons. It really wasn't the best day to be having ice cream though, because it was pretty chilly outside. I had the flavor I'm talking chocolate, my mom had the flavor chocolate raspberry truffle, my dad had chocolate malt, and Connor had cotton candy. Halfway through the ice cream, Connor said, "This tastes like bubble gum." Then later, he said, "Actually, it does taste like cotton!" I find that very funny.

Soon after getting ice cream, we went home. My parents told my brother the night before that we would go to McDonald's for dinner that night. Connor was anxious to go to the outside play land. It was pretty disgusting, so even though Connor begged me to go up there with him, I decided not to go up into it.

The saddest thing happened when we got home. We found that Cupcake was no longer breathing, when we were watching her for five minutes. So, Cupcake, the nicest hamster in the whole wide world died. She was 2 years old, so she died of old age. I decorated a small pink box for her with her name in sparkly foam letters across the top, a picture that I drew of a cupcake on the side, and on the two short ends, a kind of letter that I wrote for her, and a name poem for Cupcake. Inside, I put in some of her bedding. My dad picked up Cupcake, and put her into the box, and we took her to the hole in the backyard that my dad had dug. The saddest part of all was then it started to rain.

Splash

Author's Note: One day, I was finding it hard to think of something to write about. Then, I started thinking about dolphins. So, dolphins are what I decided to write about.

The dolphin I see
Way out in the sea
Is gray
And smiling happily

The dolphin dives down
Deep into the sparkling water
The water shimmers like
Newly-fallen snow

The dolphin springs up
Elegantly into a spin
As it increases altitude
Water droplets slide off its body

Then it gracefully
Dives back down
Into the crystal-clear
Water

Hamster Feet

Author's Note: I have a hamster named Marshmallow. The other night, I was watching him go throughout his cage. He inspired me to write this poem.

The pitter-patter of little feet
Startle me as I wake up
From my sleep
My hamster
I see is scurrying across his cage
To his wheel
His name is Marshmallow

Authors Write Books for Reasons

Author's Note: I have been reading a series called the warrior's series. I find the books very exciting and they provide clear images in my mind. The Dangerous Path is the book that inspired me to write this essay.

An author wrote their book for a reason; why do you think the author wrote the book you are currently reading or have read? Maybe they wrote the book to teach you a lesson, maybe they wrote it to show you how to make something, or maybe they wrote it to show the reader what some people are facing in their lives. Some books want the reader to connect what is happening in the book to what happened to you in real life. The author of the book “A Dangerous Path” wrote it for three main reasons.

One of the reasons why Erin Hunter wrote the book "A Dangerous Path" was to show readers that they need to believe in themselves. In the book, Fireheart had to believe that his plans to save Thunderclan would work. Otherwise, if he didn’t believe it would work, other cats would find out that Fireheart didn’t think his own plan would succeed, making them panic. This could influence readers to believe in themselves, whether it is that they can run a mile in a certain amount of time or that they can get an A on a math test. Also, Bluestar- Thunderclan’s leader- had to believe in Fireheart that he would be a great deputy. A few of the cats thought it was strange that a former kittypet- a cat that is a pet of humans- would become clan deputy. Bluestar had chosen Fireheart to become Thunderclan’s deputy, so she had to know that she made a good decision. It is always a good thing to believe that you can accomplish something.

Another reason why the author wrote the book- other than wanting the reader to believe in themselves- is because she wants the reader to know that they need to be responsible of their own actions. Fireheart has responsibilities because he is Thunderclan’s deputy. Bluestar hadn’t been thinking clearly and was spending more and more time in her den, so Fireheart actually had more duties since Bluestar didn’t take care of them. If the reader had responsibilities that weren’t done, then this book could influence them to get it done before they did anything else.

The final reason why other than wanting the reader to know that they need to be responsible, Erin Hunter wrote the book because she wants the reader to really think about the book. Depending how the reader thinks, they might think “A Dangerous Path” is boring, or they might think that it is the most exciting book ever. Also, thinking about what you read makes you a better reader. She wants to encourage the reader to become an even better reader.

Why did the author write the book? She wrote “A Dangerous Path” for three main reasons. Erin Hunter wrote the book because she wants to influence the reader to believe in themselves,to be responsible, and to make them a better reader. The reader will also find the book enjoyable. If someone would like to read a story that is enjoyable and has a lot of action in it, you should recommend “A Dangerous Path”.

Shining Beauty

Authors Note: One day, I started to scribble using all sorts of blue, purple, and pink colors. Then, I thought that would be a good idea for a poem. Once I wrote it, I found out that the words flowed so wonderful together. As you read the poem, try to picture all of the things that happen.

The waves crash against the bay
With power as the beautiful rays of sunshine
Lightly touch the sand

As day turns to night
The waves die down
Glistening in the moonlight

Orange and pink clouds line the sky
Elegantly moving toward the horizon
Dusk turns to darkness

The first stars appear in the sky
Shining as bright as ever
As more and more join them

Are You Proud of Your Country?

Author's note: It is important for us to be proud of our country. That is the whole reason why I wanted to write this paper. Many people think our country is a proud country for many different reasons. Here are some of mine.

Have you ever wondered who gave you freedom? Well, the answer happens to be our brave, courageous, and noble soldiers who fought for our country. That is only one of the many reasons why you should be proud of our country. I am proud of my country.

One reason why I am proud of our country is that I am proud of all our patriotism. Some people show patriotism by doing things like singing the national anthem at a sports event or hanging up the American Flag on Independence Day. Others may show it all the time, by fighting in a war or helping by donating things to our troops. Our veterans also show patriotism by caring enough to fight for our country. Veteran’s Day is a day when we honor our veterans who once fought for our country.

Even though our country has a lot of patriotism, our country has freedom. Unfortunately, other countries don’t have the freedom that our country does. Before we had freedom, we wanted it, and other countries thought that it wasn’t fair. So, our wonderful soldiers fought for our country. Because of them, we now have freedom. Not only is it freedom, but there are different kinds of freedom our country has. One type of freedom is the freedom of speech. Other types of freedom are as simple as being able to buy what you want at the grocery store, being able to play a certain game, being able to vote, building schools and houses. Most of those things people take for granted. People sometimes forget that our freedom did not come to us overnight.

I am proud of my country not only because of our freedom, but also because people show respect. Showing respect can help our country to be a great country tremendously. One way to show respect is lowering a flag on a flagpole when someone important dies. Another way is by respecting others. People show respect in many ways. I am proud that most people do in fact show respect.

I am proud of my country. Many people help to make this country be able to be proud of it. There are many different ways people help this country. You too, can help the country remain proud.

The Pet that is Easy to Care For

Authors Note: Before I started writing this essay, my hamster died. Then, I remembered what a great hamster she was. When I was in the middle of writing my essay, I got a new hamster. I then remembered what fun it was to have a hamster, and I was inspired.

If you had to choose a pet to have, what animal would it be? Would it be a cat, a lizard, or a mouse? When choosing a pet, you need to think about many things. The best pet that you could have is a hamster.

Hamsters are the best pets to have because they are easy to care for. All you need to care for a hamster is a cage- either a wired cage or a fish tank because hamsters are experts of escaping from their cages, a cage with tubes coming out of it could easily be chewed out of, a water bottle for drinking out of, food/food dish, and bedding. Also, you will need a nest box, usually sold at pet stores, for your hamster to sleep in or to hide in and a few “chew toys” for you hamster to chew on to keep their teeth healthy. Hamsters require little attention. They do not need to be brushed unless you have a long haired hamster, and they do not need regular check-ups. Many hamsters live without ever having to be taken to the vet. Unlike other pets, hamsters do not need to be walked. In fact, please don’t. You can’t even give your hamster a bath because it will make your pet sick. Although, you will need to clean the cage at least once a week. Other than that, hamsters barely need any care.

In addition to hamsters being easy to care for, hamsters are fun to watch. When your hamster is awake, they tend to spin on their wheel, tunnel in the bedding and poke their little heads out, and cleanse themselves. Sometimes they will just go from one thing to another. Some hamsters dash to and fro while others just walk casually. (Dwarf hamsters are more likely to dash to and fro.)

Other than just watching your hamster, you can play with your hamster. To wake up your hamster, just tap on his/her nest box and call his/her name. You will need to make sure to give the hamster a few minutes to wake up. Once your hamster is awake, you can gently scoop him up with your hands. Dwarf hamsters tend to be squirmier, so be sure to cup your hands so he/she does not fly out of your hands on to the floor. It is easier to bring your hamster to a bathtub so that if the hamster leaps on to the ground, he can’t run away. Instead of letting the hamster roam free, think of your body as a playground. That way, having a hamster can be fun and enjoyable.

A hamster is the best pet you could have. If you would like a cute, loveable pet that is easy to care for, then a hamster is the pet for you.
